POPULAR QUESTIONS

  • What is better, gas or oil heat?

There are pros and cons to both gas and oil heating systems, and the best system for your home will depend on a lot of individual factors. Gas furnaces are cleaner and quieter than oil. Oil provides more heat per BTU than gas, but gas furnaces require less maintenance. We are happy to do an individual analysis of your home and your family’s needs to determine what the best system is for you. The good news is that we install and service both gas and oil systems and guide you without bias.

  • Is gas or oil more popular?

While oil prices are more volatile and subject to the vagaries of global supply and demand, natural gas production is centered in the U.S. and Canada, securing a more stable supply. Perhaps because of this difference, about 50% of American homes are heated with gas today, versus about 8% of homes with oil heat.

  • How do I know when it is time to replace my furnace?

If your furnace exhibits any of the following warning signs, call us for a thorough inspection. We may be able to repair it, or it may be time for a new system installation:

    • If your furnace needs frequent repairs.
    • If your energy bills are going up despite usage staying the same.
    • If the rooms in your house are heating unevenly, with some rooms hotter or colder than others.
    • If your furnace is cycling on and off more frequently than in the past.
    • If your home is starting to have humidity problems.
    • If your furnace becomes excessively noisy or develops rattles, buzzes, or hums.
    • If your furnace starts putting out excessive dust, soot, dirt or rust particles.
    • If you see visible signs of rust in and around your furnace, or if any of the components show cracks or corrosion.
  • How much does an energy star rated unit save me per year?

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, a new Energy Star gas furnace will save an average of 15% in energy costs per year, while a new Energy Star oil furnace saves an average of 4%. The dollar amount associated with having the peace of mind of a newly installed and reliable system is immeasurable. Systems only fail when they are running and they are only running when it is cold outside. We encourage our customers to change their aging or failing system before it fails during the cold winter months.
